Gil Hibben Old West Bowie

GH5013

This knife is an actual copy of a typical Bowie knife of the 1830s. The story of the Bowie began on a sandbar of the Mississippi River above Natchez, Mississippi on September 19, 1827. A brawl that eventually involved Col. James “Jim” Bowie, who, having been shot and stabbed, successfully defended himself killing Major Norris Wright and wounding Alfred Blanchard with what onlookers described as a “large butcher knife.” This and other tales of Bowie’s abilities with a knife led to the widespread popularity of what became known as the “Bowie” knife. 14” ov.
